Role Overview:

We are looking for an ambitious, driven, professional and technology ambassador to fill the role of Business Development Manager who will play a critical role in growing our business. In this role you will be responsible for initiating contact with potential and current customers to generate and qualify leads, identify sales opportunities and bring them to close. You must clearly and convincingly articulate the organization’s offerings and value proposition and overcome initial resistance from prospects. 


In this role, you will represent our company at a senior level and interact with major clients on a daily basis. Therefore, the successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, strong commercial acumen and a passion for customer service excellence in order to achieve success. Furthermore, in this role, you will also be providing support for our growing sales team in Europe.


Ultimately, you will be measured on achieving both strategic sales in South Africa and supporting sales in Europe.

Primary Roles and responsibilities

  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; and integrating contract requirements with business operations.
  • Build market position by locating, developing, defining, and closing sales transactions in South Africa by leveraging your existing network as well as DataProphet’s current network in South Africa and additional lead generation methods.
  • Screen potential deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, and financials
  • Develop, implement, and drive the growth strategy in the South African market with a focus on the application of DataProphet’s technology into new manufacturing process verticals.
  • Support sales, channels, and direct clients in the EU by supporting the Director of Business Development (EU)
  • Assist in the creation of tailored marketing & sales content, and provide regular training & updates to regional clients
  • Stay abreast of industry developments by researching relevant events, publications, and announcements.
  • Thorough and accurate reporting of deal statuses upon the company’s CRM including forecasting on deals.

  • The successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong commercial acumen and a passion for value based sales in order to achieve success.
  • Proven track records in anticipating customer organization issues impacting business opportunities.
  • An aptitude for building client relationships (internally and externally).
  • Outstanding selling and networking skills along with strong negotiation skills with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Energetic, outgoing, proactive, creative and have attention to detail with strong competence in planning, developing, maintaining and reporting upon a sales pipeline.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant technical field within manufacturing 
  • Ideally, an MBA or Business related degree would be advantageous
  • Minimum 4 - 6 years of experience related to either automotive, rubber, semiconductor or general manufacturing environment
  • Ideally Management Consulting and/or Engineering Consulting experience
  • Familiar knowledge about PLCs, SCADA, Historians, Databasing, IoT, SPC or Root Cause Analysis
  • Solid sales experience and a proven track record of excellence in B2B environment, ideally in the manufacturing sector
  • Hands on experience with software and sales management systems, ideally Hubspot.
  • Understanding of sales performance metrics
  • Strong negotiation skills with a problem-solving attitude
  • Availability to travel as needed both locally and internationally.
